This Week at The Hamptons School

In Kindergarten this week students started talking about weight in math!  They used scales and measured the weight of 10 crayons.  Then students were tasked to find something that would weigh more and “tip the scales”! Students have also been going to the park for gym.  This is important for kindergarten students as it gets them used to more indoor/outdoor transitions and being independent outside.  The class is still waiting for the butterflies to come out of their chrysalis, which we are anticipating happening this weekend.  Finally, students are creating their hungry caterpillar books and get to determine what the caterpillar is going to eat on each page of the book.

In Grade One, students started their Alberta animal research in science and created a mixed-up animal using different characteristics.  Students continued to watch their growing plants and discussed the viability of seeds.  In math students are learning and more and less as well as fact families. They are excited for their field trip on Glenbow Ranch on Monday!  In writing students continued to work on adding details and punctuation.

In Grade Two, students were excited about their novel study based on the book The Mouse and The Motorcycle.  In math, students are working on Geometry and different characteristics of 3D shapes.  In gym students were excited to play dodgeball and various tag games.  Finally, students in Ms. Ringheim’s class finished their animal research and are getting ready to present their research to the class and Ms. Werle’s class finished their unit on Metghan.

In Grades Three and Four students played dodgeball, tennis and golf in Phys Ed.  In science students learned about natural disasters including tornados, floods, volcanos, wildfires, hurricanes, tsunamis, earthquakes and landslides.  Ms. Stetz’s class continued their learning of the Seven Sacred Teachings and focused on the wolf which represents humility.  In math students did a scavenger hunt to measure in millimeters, centimeters and meters.  In social studies student continued to learn about the settlers that came to Alberta.

Late Entry & Absences

As we approach the end of the school year, we know that routine and schedules can begin to slip.  We want to gently remind parents / guardians the importance of arriving on time for school.  We have noticed a significant increase in students coming in after the bell.  Additionally, we kindly ask that if your child(ren) are absent that you remember to call the school before the beginning of the school day and leave a message on our absentee line.

Parking Lot Safety

Please refrain from walking directly through the staff parking lot before and after school.  There are many different employee schedules that see support staff and other CBE professionals coming and going at various times of the day.  It is not safe to walk through the parking lot.  Please use the sidewalks adjacent to the school/parking lot.

Bussing

A reminder to parents/guardians that if you are eligible to ride the yellow bus, registration closes on June 16th.  Please register using your MyCBE account.
