Education Week

Next week is Education Week! Classes will be participating in several different activities including Dress Up as your favorite book character day on Wednesday, April 17th! We look forward to seeing everyone’s costumes.

Ms. Hayashi Away

Ms. Hayashi is away in Japan on a Mom and Daughter trip from today, April 12 and will be returning on April 22nd.  During this time, we ask you to please either call the school or email our guest Admin Secretary, Ms. Cooper at arcooper@cbe.ab.ca

When calling the school absence line please ensure that you are saying your child’s first and last name and slowly spell the last name. Please refrain from emailing Ms. Hayashi directly or the external inbox as the school will not receive those messages.

This Week at The Hamptons School

In Kindergarten this week students were introduced to the duck eggs they are hatching in their classroom! The exploration and investigation of hatching ducklings will have a cross curricular approach.  In the science Earth Systems unit, students will explore change through the lens of how animals grow.  In Language Arts, students will listen to a variety of texts, express information in a variety of ways, create a variety of digital and non-digital messages, attempt to spell unknown words using letter-sound relationships and copy environmental print to become familiar with how words are spelled.  By doing their “which egg will hatch first” vote students connected to math outcomes by exploring comparisons of quantity using words such as more, less and the same.  Finally, to bridge connections between art and music, students will use a variety of art materials to create two and three dimensional forms and participate in action songs.

In Grade One, students learned the skills of subtraction including counting on and counting back using a number path.  In writing, students learned about solar eclipses and why it is dangerous to look at the sun at any time. In Social Studies students are starting to explore children’s rights.  Finally, in Gymnastics students used the mat skills they learned last week on new equipment including a balance beam, ladders and rollers.

In Grade Two, students created art for their upcoming assembly.  Students in Ms. Ringheim’s class created land forms from plasticine and Ms. Werle’s class created collage art.  Students took part in an in school field trip with Teachers Pet where they built a model of different land forms and were able to participate in virtual reality presentations that showed different land forms in Alberta. In Math, students are continuing to work on double digit addition with regrouping.

In Grades Three and Four, students learned about fractions and created fraction kites as a cross-curricular art/math task.  In Social studies students are focusing on “the stories that make us” with a focus specifically on Alberta.  In Language Arts they created the introduction and middle sections of their stuck stories.  Students were excited to continue balancing and complete an obstacle course using the gymnastics equipment.

Casino – Thank You

While we took the time in January to thank all the volunteers who worked at the Casino, we wanted to reiterate this message after receiving the deposit of funds.  This casino we raised just over $80,000 for our school for the next two years.   We are so thankful for the support of our volunteers and the learning opportunities this money will provide!

School Council & Fundraising Society

On May 22nd our School Council and Fundraising Society will have its final meeting and AGM for the 2023/2024 School Year. We will be saying goodbye to several of our long-time executive members as their children are moving on to Grade 5. We will be looking to fill the positions of vice-president, treasurer and director at large at the May 22nd meeting.  These positions must be filled for us to have a Council/Fundraising society.   We will lose our right to a casino and many other privileges if we do not have these positions filled.  Please stay tuned over the next month as we describe to each of the roles that will be open.
