This Week at The Hamptons School In Kindergarten this week students were focusing on the numbers 6 and 7 in math. Additionally, they were introduced to the concept of symmetry, and then in partners created a pair of mittens that were symmetrical. Students focused on kindness this week and brainstormed ideas on how they can be kind to others. Following this brainstorming activity students drew pictures of being kind. In Grade One students hosted their Pink Shirt Day assembly. They did an amazing job sharing their thoughts about kindness as well as some poems and songs. Students noted that they were nervous, excited, happy and proud of their assembly. In math students are learning about number order in preparation for the making and breaking numbers. This is the beginning of addition and subtraction. In Grade Two students have been looking at picture prompts to plan writing for stories. In Science, they focused on ear safety and continued with Robo Garden. Like other grades they focused on kindness and created some Pink Shirt Day art. In Grades Three and Four students explored themes of friendship, kindness and anti-bullying to align with Pink Shirt Day. On February 29th students participated in “be your own boss day” where they were able to choose from a menu of learning and task options throughout the day to meet the curricular outcomes they were focusing on. In math, students continued their exploration and problem solving with arrays and number lines. Finally, in Social Studies classes are focusing on the Indigenous Peoples of Alberta and how each region traditionally lived on and learned from the land. We will continue to monitor the temperature and in cases where it is below -20 degrees, students will not have outdoor recess. However – when the temperature is at a level above that we will be going outside! Please ensure that students continue to wear winter boots, snow pants and jacket as well as a hat and gloves. Thank You - School Engagement Survey I would like to express my sincere thanks for everyone who filled out the survey! We had our largest response ever – over four times the responses in the past with a total of 71 families filling it out. We will have our draw for prizes next week! Upcoming Healthy Hunger
