This Week at The Hamptons School

In Kindergarten this week students learned in Social Studies about groups that they belong to including their families and classroom.  Following discussions, they drew both a picture of their family and their classmates in their visual journals. In math, kindergarten students have been continuing their work on taking two different numbers and putting them together to make a total of 5 or 10.  Students demonstrated how to make a number in as many ways as possible. In music, students were excited to learn a song where they were able to add percussion instruments including egg shakers and drums.

In Grade One, students have been building mazes as a part of the Energy Systems unit in Science.  As a part of this project students also learned how to follow an assessment rubric to meet the success criteria for the task.  In Math, students continued with their work on the whole-part relationship of numbers and that the whole can be broken into two parts for adding and subtraction.  In English Language Arts and Literature, students continued to learn how to add quality details to their writing.

In Grade Two, students began to explore double digit addition in math.  In science, students in Ms. Ringheim’s class finished their unit on light energy while students in Mrs. Werle’s class began the unit on Living Systems.  All students read through several social stories to support their understanding of following group expectations when in school.  After reading these stories students were able to reflect on them through writing.  Finally, in gym students were excited to use the plasma cars!

In Grades Three and Four students started long division in math!  In Social Studies, students finished their brochures that integrated writing alongside their knowledge of an Indigenous group of people.  In Science, students added vocabulary to their dictionaries to begin their Living Systems unit through the guiding question “how do plants and animals interact”.  Some vocabulary terms included carnivores, herbivores and omnivores.

Ramadan Mubarak!
