To the Parents and Guardians of The Hamptons School,
Thank you for continuing to teach your children their purpose ….
I come to The Hamptons School to Learn.
As I continue to visit classrooms and focus on student learning, I am asking students 5 questions.
This week, I have shared some of the Grade Four and Five student responses.
What are you learning? (Learning Intention) (Task Design)
“We are learning about the digestive system.”
“We are comparing the digestive systems of humans and cows by creating a Venn Diagram.”
“There are three sections to our Venn Diagram.”
“One circle for the cow, one circle for the human and one where the two circles overlap and collide to show what the cow and human digestive systems have in common.”
Why are you learning this? (Conceptual Understanding)
“We are learning about the digestive system to learn more about ourselves and how the digestive system works.”
“If you have a problem then you know how it works.”
What do you do when you make a mistake? (Growth Mindset)
“Learn from it.”
“Use your own brain.”
“Don’t copy others.”
“Understand why.”
How do you learn when you make a mistake? (Growth Mindset)
“Think”
“Learn from it.”
“Learn about consequences. – learn from consequences.”
How do you know when you have done a good job? (Success Criteria)
“Learn from examples.”
“Teacher tells you your work is amazing!”
“Don’t give up.”
“Try your best!”
“Use your own brain.”
“Push yourself to the limit, even if it is hard and then you feel proud!”
Speaking with students about their learning, always creates moments of Joy!
These are engaging questions that parents can ask their children after a day of learning.
Student Led Conferences
AAs you are aware, we are scheduling Student Led Conferences on Friday, March 13 from 1:15 – 3:15 p.m. and Thursday, March 19 from 3:30 – 7:00 p.m. Student-Led conversations will provide an opportunity for students to celebrate their Learning. Maintaining on-going dialogue between parents and teachers allows everyone to have a common understanding of how student-learning needs can best be met. We look forward to celebrating your child’s / children’s learning with you.
Students always shine during the Student-Led Celebration!
There is still time to schedule a conference.
