This Week At the Hamptons School

In Kindergarten, students were excited to take part in Phys ed exercises where they were practicing hand-eye coordination.  These exercises included ladder golf, target practice as well as throwing and catching.  In their journals students focused on the letter "L" and the number 7.  Students were excited to start a Valentine's Day themed book and begin decorating their bags for collecting special cards from their classmates next week.

In Grade 1,  students were excited to listen to the Chief Superintendent, Ms. Pitman, do a read aloud for Family Literacy week.  In UFLI students focused on both "qu" and "v" sounds while in math, students are digging into their subtraction unit and comparing numbers.  In their journals students inquired through mystery science: "can animals really predict the weather?"  Finally, students finished the week creating some penguin stamp art!

This week in Grade 2, students explored the different sounds of "ed" in UFLI and learned about past tense verbs, applying their understanding in their writing. In Social Studies, they began learning about the Inuit people as they prepared for an upcoming assembly and practiced sketching artifacts related to their studies. In Math, students worked on building their understanding of place value and practiced skip counting. For Physical Education, they engaged in hand-eye coordination games and participated in the Husky 500, developing their movement skills in a fun and active way.

In Grade 3/4, students have been immersed in exciting learning experiences that connect science, literacy, and real-world events. As part of their Moon Journals, they have been tracking the phases of the moon, building their observational skills, and deepening their understanding of lunar cycles. In addition, they have been learning about the rare celestial event known as the Parade of Planets, sparking curiosity about our solar system. In literacy, students continue their novel study of A Rover Story, engaging with themes of perseverance, exploration, and identity while making meaningful connections to space science.

Report Cards

A reminder that report cards went live on MyCBE at the end of January.  Please download and save a copy of the report card before the end of May, after this time it will no longer be available. Additionally, please take the time to read the comments that are situated to strengthen your understanding of your child's progress.  Teachers take great time and care to write personalized comments for each individual student that describe their current level of achievement in relation to the Program of Studies outcomes.

School Recycling/Garbage Bins

Our facility operator has noticed that members of our community have been discarding household recycling and garbage in or near our bins.  The CBE tracks and manages our waste and recycling so we kindly ask you to use City of Calgary disposal sites for your household items.

Safety Tip of the Week

A reminder for all students to dress for the weather!  Although it may be too cold to play outside in the morning, we may move outside for recess later in the day if the temperature warms above -20.
