This Week at the Hamptons School

All students completed their second Lockdown Drill as part of our School Emergency Plans and Procedures on Tuesday.  We were joined by two officers from the Calgary Police Service who were quite pleased with the students attention and behavior during the Lockdown.

In Kindergarten, students worked on the letter K in their letter books.  The class was excited to read the story "What is my Super Power" by Aviaq Johnston and discuss their own super powers and talents.  Students continued working on their friendship books and are excited to hand out Valentines.  In Music, they sang the song "Music has as a steady beat".

In Grade One, student focused on a review of the short "a" vowel sound and the letter "z" during their UFLI lessons.  Continuing with English Language Arts, students completed a Words Their Way sort focusing on the letters l, K, J and W.   In math students are leading up to activities to celebrate the 100th day of school and have also been making Valentine's Day bags.

In Grade Two, students focused on words with "ING" suffixes during their UFLI Lessons.  In English Language Arts and Literature students worked on using verbs and adding "er" / "est" to words.  In science, students are choosing animals to complete a research project while in math they built a place value creature.

In Grade Three/Four, students continued their novel study The Rover Story.  In math, Grade 3 students are working on immediate recall of multiplication facts up to 100, and Grade 4 students are working through 3-digit by 1-digit multiplication questions using traditional, stack and box methods. In science, students are learning Indigenous ways of knowing and understanding  related to the full moon.  Did you know that there are 13 grandmother moons and the upcoming full moon is known as the Snow Moon? Finally, in phys ed, students played a giant game of Monopoly.

Safety Tip of the Week

We are still noticing that parents/guardians are stopping in front of the school parking lot entrance to drop off or pick up their children.  We have also noticed that children are walking through the employee parking lot. This is unsafe, and we kindly request you discontinue this parking practice and remind your children to stay out of the employee parking lot.  Depending on their schedules, employees at the Hamptons School may be coming and going at the same time as student entry and dismissal - we want to avoid any possible pedestrian incidents by having all Hamptons School community members staying out of the parking lot.

Found - Apple AirPods

Last week a pair of Apple AirPods were turned into the main office that was found near our school.  If you believe these to be yours, please email or call our school with the Generation and Serial Number of the headphones.
