Thank you, Casino Volunteers
Students, staff and Parent Society of The Hamptons School are deeply grateful for all of our volunteers' commitment and support in making the casino fundraising event a success on June 10 & 11. The funds raised from this event will go directly toward enriching our school through Artist in Residence programs, Literacy Enhancements, Curriculum Support and Technology upgrades.
This Week At the Hamptons School
In Kindergarten, students are still working on their Hungry Caterpillar books and have reached the part where the caterpillar is about to transform! Students are using both pictures and words to show their understanding of the story. They also celebrated their 100 Days Projects, where each student had the opportunity to share what they created and explain how they knew there were 100 objects — showcasing creativity and strong counting skills. A Grade One classroom switch took place recently, giving students a chance to experience a different learning environment and prepare for what’s ahead next year. For Physical Education, students visited the park a few times, enjoying the outdoors while building their gross motor skills through play and movement. Finally, in their journals, students drew pictures based on personal choice and wrote sentences to go along with their drawings — a wonderful way to connect ideas, drawing, and early writing skills.
In Grade 1 during UFLI, they worked on closed syllable lessons and applied their skills while reading the decodable text The Rocket Contest. In Math, they continued learning about surveys and graphing, collecting and organizing data in different ways. Students also participated in a Kindergarten switch, helping the current Kindergarten children feel more comfortable about moving into Grade One next year. In Phys Ed, they enjoyed playing field hockey, practicing their passing and movement skills. They also put lots of love and creativity into making special Father’s Day gifts to celebrate the important people in their lives.
Grade 2 students have been exploring a wide range of learning experiences across subjects! In UFLI, students have been working with words that drop the final “e” before adding suffixes like -er, -est, -ed, and -ing. This builds their understanding of spelling patterns and word structure. In Reading, students have been building their comprehension skills by reading a short passage about kangaroos and answering both recall and inferential questions. This encouraged them to think deeply and draw conclusions based on the text. For Writing, students have been working on chapter summaries from our class novel The Mouse and the Motorcycle. They also completed a character reflection on Keith, the young boy in the story, thinking about his actions, thoughts, and relationships. In Math, students are solving word problems by identifying key information and clue words. They’ve also been introduced to non-standard measurement tools like blocks and have completed their unit on measuring time using a calendar. In Art, students let their imaginations shine by creating the Mountain View Hotel, a setting from the novel, combining creativity with details from the story. Finally, in Science, students reviewed different land formations, then explored the concept of UNESCO and learned about famous sites around the world and what makes them special. They then zoomed in on UNESCO sites in Alberta, making connections to their home province.
In Grade 3/4 students have been engaged in a variety of meaningful learning experiences as the school year winds down. They spent time reflecting on their school year, considering their personal growth, favourite moments, and accomplishments. In Math, the focus has been on measurement, where students explored both the imperial and metric systems. They practiced converting between units, estimating, and measuring real-world objects—skills they can apply beyond the classroom. Physical Education featured field hockey, where students learned the basic skills of the game such as dribbling, passing, and teamwork. In Science, research projects are well underway. Some students chose to create Google Slides presentations to showcase their findings using digital tools, while others designed their own National Geographic-style magazines—combining visuals, facts, and creativity to communicate what they’ve learned about their chosen topics.
