School Planning and Feedback Survey
Thank you to those parents that have already lent their voice to our annual planning survey. If you haven't already we would appreciate your feedback.
This Week At the Hamptons School
In Kindergarten, students have been making Olaf's in art, practicing cutting and gluing. In math, students have played a game "who has more" with cards. They would draw a card, state the numeral and the student with the highest card got to keep both! In Literacy, they focused on the letter G including the letter sound, printing it and then drawing items that start with G. Finally, students enjoyed beach adventure day as part of the yoga residency creating the poses of the animals like whales, jellyfish and crabs they may see at the beach.
In Grade One, students focused on words with "all" "ail" and "ull" in their UFLI Lessons and read the decodable text "The Mud Track". In math, they began adding and subtracting using whiteboards and counters. Students were fascinated to learn about a hanging drum from the yoga teacher. They finished the week with a mixed media art project.
In Grade Two, students focused on words ending in -dge and reinforced their understanding through a crossword puzzle featuring -dge words. In writing, they explored homonyms and practiced using them in their work, reflected on yoga through writing, and participated in a special lesson on Nova Scotia led by student teacher Ms. Bos. In coding, they continued building their skills and progressed in their game development. Physical Education emphasized yoga poses, balance, and relaxation techniques. In science, students began their Energy unit with a focus on sound, learning how hearing works and exploring the story of Helen Keller. They even practiced writing their names in Braille. In math, they started an unit on 2D and 3D shapes, learning to identify and describe them using terms like polygons, faces, edges, corners, flat, and curved. Finally, during their Buddies session, Mrs. Hughes' class collaborated with Ms. Kassam's students to create 2D designs using tangrams while discussing the names, sides, and corners of different shapes.
In Grade Three/Four, students were very excited to participate in our Yoga Residency. In Math, students focused on division, number lines and arrays. In Social Studies, students eagerly researched about various countries while in ELA they continued their novel study. To connect to their Space unit in science, students created beautiful constellation pieces.
