Arriving on Time for School
As we near the end of the school year, we know routines can get a little harder to stick to, and mornings sometimes feel extra hectic—especially with the sunshine and excitement of summer just around the corner. That said, arriving on time is still very important for your child’s learning and helps set a positive tone for the day. The first few minutes of school are key for getting settled, hearing important instructions, and starting the day with focus. We appreciate your continued efforts in helping your child arrive on time each day.
Casino Volunteers
We still need 7 positions filled and 12 backup spots covered for our upcoming casino on June 10th and 11th. Backups are only called if someone is unexpectedly unable to attend, but they are essential to ensuring we can run the event smoothly. All positions must be filled in order for us to continue receiving valuable casino funding (reminder, last casino brought in approximately $80,000!) If you’re able to help, please contact Clara at 403-777-7300. Thank you for supporting our school!
This Week At the Hamptons School
In Kindergarten, students had a fun and busy week of learning! In literacy, they focused on the letter Q and drew wonderful pictures of ducklings quacking to represent the "q" sound. In science, they explored the four stages of the caterpillar life cycle and made another exciting observation of the butterflies. In math, they continued to build their subitizing skills by working with groups of 1 to 5 objects. They also completed the final page of their duckling journals, sharing their favourite memories about having ducklings in the classroom. Everyone is looking forward to visiting their buddy class to hear ukulele songs and share their journals!
In Grade 1, students have been working through UFLI lessons with a focus on reading and spelling words that end in -ed and -es. They’ve enjoyed applying these skills while reading decodable texts like Two Foxes and Will the Whale. In Math, they've been exploring money concepts, including identifying coins, sorting them, and ordering their values. As part of their end-of-year reflection, students are also creating special artifacts for a time capsule, imagining what life might be like “In 25 years…”. Finally, students continued our curiosity-driven learning with engaging Mystery Science lessons, helping students explore big questions about the world around them.
In Grade Two, students have been exploring a variety of exciting topics! In literacy, they connected their writing to a Mystery Science lesson by asking, "Why is the ocean salty?" In math, they began learning about fractions, using visual models to build understanding. During gym, students have been practicing their skipping skills as well as playing with scoops and balls to improve coordination. In music, they started learning about the treble clef and how it helps us read notes. A big shoutout to Callie and Connor for helping put together this learning update!
In Grades 3 and 4, students have been busy with hands-on learning across all subjects! In science, they planted beans and black-eyed Susans, explored Alberta plant research, and created detailed plasticine label diagrams. In math, they continued working with fractions, played engaging math games, and began their new unit on telling time. Gym has been full of energy with dodgeball, hoops, and lots of skipping—forward, backward, on one foot, side to side, and even crisscross! A highlight last week was a special visit from a junior high band, which gave students a glimpse into the exciting opportunities that await them in the future. In language arts, students used their creativity to write "seed stories" and added thoughtful contributions to their time capsule project. Thanks to Ms. Stetz's class for helping with the 3/4 message!
Safety Tip of the Week
For everyone's safety, students should not cut through the staff parking lot at any time—even if they are running late. Staff members come and go throughout the day, and our little learners can be difficult to see from a vehicle. Please use the sidewalks and designated paths to ensure safe arrival and dismissal.
