This Week At the Hamptons School

In Kindergarten, students worked on their pre-printing book.  This book includes various lines and shapes that prepare students for writing letters.  In math, students continued their ABC skills while in science they sorted buttons based on their size.  Finally, students went on a fall walk where they used their senses to look for signs of Fall!

In Grade 1, students learned the letter sounds for the letters A and M.  With the Thanksgiving Holiday approaching, students discussed and reflected on what they are thankful for.  In math students both composed and decomposed 2D shapes while in Phys Ed students worked on their throwing skills by using scoops and balls and playing dodgeball.

In Grade 2, students worked on graphemes and phonemes with words ending with -UR. In a joint English Language Arts and Social Studies task, students summarized, sequenced and illustrated a Pioneer Story.  The focus of the Grade 2 Thanksgiving talk was being thankful for the small things in life.  In math, students continued patterning while in Phys Ed students further honed their ball skills with games like scoops and balls and bench ball.

In Grades 3/4, students are starting to work on the school-wide "You Be You" art project extravaganza!  In math, students are comparing numbers up to 100 000 using greater than, less than and equal to.  In English Language Arts and Literature, students are creating stories about their names.  To create these stories that focuses on their unique selves, students are first answering questions like: Who gave us our name? Where are our names from? Are we named after someone?  Finally, in Phys Ed students experienced a combination of dodgeball, fall walks, sit spots and lacrosse.

All students who were away on October 1 will also have their individual photos taken on November 4.  If you would like a photo retake of your child, please reply back to this email including your child’s name so that we are aware that a retake is required.

Safety Tip of the Week

Helmets are important!  We love seeing students bike and scooter to school.  It is important that students wear properly fitted helmets when riding or scooting to protect their head from injury!
