This Week at the Hamptons School

In Kindergarten, students completed their "Y" Tree art by creating a tree trunk and branches by using the shape of the letter Y.  In their line books, students worked on diagonal lines, as well as lines that take the shape of rainbows and smiles.  In math, students worked on their number sense by rolling a dice, identifying the number rolled, associating the rolled number with a numeral on a page and then using a bingo dabber to make that many dots.  Finally, in music students explored fast and slow and used scarves to demonstrate their knowledge of fast and slow with music playing.

In Grade One, students are learning about two-dimensional shapes in math.  Students were excited to participate in a mystery science lesson and connect it to a skeleton art activity.  In writing students are learning letters, sounds and sight words.  The class is also building a word wall and determining how and when they would use it for their writing tasks.  In their UFLI lessons, students learned the letters and sounds for M, T, S and A.  Finally in Phys Ed students are continuing to work on their hand-eye coordination with scoops and balls.

In Grade Two, students explored what life of a child was like in pioneer days. Both classes were very excited to attend their field trip at Heritage Park where they participated in two experiences: the one room school house and prairie pumpkins.  Thank you to all the parent volunteers who helped make this field trip a success!  In writing, students are focusing on past tense and present tense verbs.  Grade 2 students are also continuing their work with hand eye coordination in Phys ed by playing a pioneer game called tiger in the corner.

In Grade Three/Four, students continued with the unit on matter by discussing waste in our world and our connection to blue bins and recycling.  In ELAL students published their name stories.  They also deconstructed two stories to examine how stories are written. In Math students are ordering numbers from greatest to least and least to greatest while in Music, students are singing Halloween songs!

Halloween!

We are inviting all students to dress up for Halloween.  We kindly request that no scary costumes or make-up (ie. something that might scare younger children) be worn by students. This includes no realistic weapons such as knives or guns. Please come dressed in your Halloween costume for the beginning of the school day and do not send any treats.

Fees

This week Ms. Hayashi will be posting an $8 Agenda Fee to each student's MyCBE account in Grades 1 - 4.  Fees have also been posted for student supplies, lunchroom supervision and bussing (if applicable).
