This Week At the Hamptons School
In Kindergarten, students began a beautiful fall leaf art project. Students started by choosing their leaf. They then practiced writing their name on the leaf before choosing fall colours to add more depth and beauty to their project. In journals students explored what it means to be creative with their drawings by brainstorming all sorts of ideas including pictures that included people at the beach, living at a fairy house or visiting the moon. In science students continued sorting, this time by size using apples. Finally in music, students have been singing and dancing to the hokey pokey!
In Grade 1, students continued with their patterns unit in math, but this week their focus was on translating patterns. In printing, students worked on legibility with "magic c" letters while in writing students were stretching out and sounding out words to practice spelling. In art, students were inspired by the book prompt Miss Rumphius to create art to make the world a more beautiful place. Finally in Phys Ed students worked on their rolling skills to show their ability to control a ball.
In Grade 2, watched the video prompt "You be You" and then made fish art project to represent their unique self. In math, students continued with patterning by exploring numeric patterns within a hundreds chart while also practicing math skills on Mathletics. In social students continued reading and discussing stories of people coming to Canada while in gym students played scoops and balls, scooters and dodgeball. In literacy students focused on legibility by forming proper letter sizes while printing and to make sure they are starting sentences with capitals. Finally, for a second week students worked on graphemes -and phonemes with words ending with -ir.
In Grade 3/4, students continued their work on place value up to 100,000. The culmination of this work will be a place value meets Mondrian Art project! In writing students continued personal narratives and students looked in the thesaurus for better descriptive words. In science, students wrapped up their unit on dangerous materials by doing an at-home project looking for various warning symbols, and in Phys ed students played lacrosse.
Lunchroom Supervision
Almost all students at The Hamptons School stay at school for lunch Monday - Thursday. You must register your child for lunch supervision as there is a fee for this service. Please register through your MyCBE account.
Safety Tip of the Week
We are still noticing that despite signage, that parents/guardians are using the school's parking lot to drop off students or using the parking lot to turn around in. The school parking lot is for staff only.
