Principal's Message - December 1 2023
Dear Hamptons Parents/Guardians:
This week at The Hamptons School
Wow! Can you believe that we are already at the beginning of December? This week has been a full and busy week of learning at The Hamptons School. In Kindergarten students are focusing on their math measurement unit. Throughout the week students traced their feet and determined the length using unifex cubes answering the question: “how many cubes long is my foot”? Following this activity, they created a bar graph with the entire class’ set of information using the traced feet!
In Grade 1 students created a multi-step art project featuring trees in the winter. The students used pastel and tempered paint and focused on bringing nature into the classroom. The art also featured snowflakes which lent itself to an interesting conversation about the random nature of snowflakes versus processes that are more organized.
In Grade 2 students created a survey question in math and then collected data. Once they had their final results they created a bar graph. In writing the students wrote “ouch stories” about a time they were hurt. They edited the stories and published these stories to their visual journals.
In Grades 3 & 4 students were focusing on the regions of Alberta in Social Studies. They created presentations and then presented them to the class. In science they wrapped up their unit on matter and in math students worked through math problems with addition questions in the hundreds or thousands.
We wrapped up our week in the comfiest of ways with PJs and stuffies. The students were thrilled to share their favorite stuffies with their friends and it was a perfect way to end a busy week.
Usborne Book Fair
Thank you to all the generous parents and guardians that bought items from our book fair! We raised a total of $675 in books and Ms. Watson has already ordered a wide variety of new materials for our library!
Mayors Food Drive
A reminder that this year we will be supporting the Mayors Food Drive leading up to the Holidays. There was a notice with a QR code sent home this week so you are able to donate directly through our personalized website. Look for the bulletin board across from our library for our charity progress – each ornament equals $10 donated.
