Principal's Message - January 26 2024

This Week At The Hamptons School

It was a busy week of learning at The Hamptons School! This week in kindergarten students have been talking about their five senses and how they can be used to describe everything around us.  Ms. Richardson popped some popcorn and students got to describe popcorn by using their five senses.

In grade one students started length in math.  They are making both indirect and direct comparisons between objects.  Direct comparisons are measurements taken when you can put two objects side by side and measure them using a non-standard unit.  Indirect comparisons are measurements taken of objects that cannot be placed side by side so students must decide on a unit of non-standard measurement to compare the objects accurately.

In grade two students continued writing fictional narratives in ELAL.  In a cross-curricular social studies & art project students created dioramas of the arctic.  Finally in math, students demonstrated their knowledge of place value by creating “place value creatures”.

In grades three and four students had the opportunity to read with their reading buddies! In math students continued their work with a transformations, reflections (using a mirra), rotations and translations.  In science students started coding using the program Robogarden.  In ELAL students were learning about similes and began an art project that incorporated personal similes.
