Volunteers, You ROCK!

Students and staff were delighted to honour many of the volunteers at The Hamptons School who were able to attend our celebration this week.  At the celebration I noted that we are truly a community, and we couldn’t be the school we are without our amazing volunteers.  We know that some of our volunteers were unable to attend, but please know that we appreciate you, too!

This Week at The Hamptons School

In Kindergarten this week students were thrilled to name the duckling that was born about one week ago.  Students settled on Jojo, but some honorable mentions include “Cheese and Qwakers”, “Peep-peep” and “Pizza”.  Students completed another page of their duck book where they were able to illustrate the duck in real life.  In math they have been continuing to describe shapes and their attributes.  Today in gym students did their first excursion to the park.

In Grade 1 students are working on circle patterns (mandalas) in both math and art.  In math they are also continuing to learn about symmetry.  Students were excited to complete Mother’s Day art to bring home this weekend and were also able to finish their Stuart Little Novel study.  Finally, students had a discussion about mental health is and how they can take care of their overall health and well-being.

In Grade 2 , students planted seeds to continue their investigation of plant life cycles.  Some plants have even started to germinate!  Students finished up double digit addition and subtraction with regrouping and are getting ready to start fractions.  In ELAL they are exploring various word families.

In Grades 3 and 4 students focused on learning time!  They learned about AM/PM and the difference in telling time between 12 and 24 hour clocks. Students were excited to present their rock themed presentation to the parents during volunteer celebration using songs, jokes and air guitar moves!  In gym students used hoola hoops, played dodgeball and went on a spring walk to look at the change in seasons.  Ms. Stetz’s class also read their stuck stories to their reading buddies.

Kindergarten Orientation

On Wednesday, May 22 parents of incoming kindergarten students will be invited to The Hamptons School for a short presentation followed by a classroom visit and short observation.  Following the orientation we will host our final Parent Council and Fundraising Society Meeting/AGM for the 2023-2024 school year!

Safety Drills

Today we completed fire drill number 5 of 6!  Students were able to demonstrate how to safely leave the building, have their attendance taken and quietly wait for further instructions.  We will have one final fire drill during the month of May to complete our 6 total!  We have also completed two lockdown drills with Calgary Police and one bus evacuation drill alongside Southland transportation.
