This Week At the Hamptons School

Today we wrapped up our five day soccer residency with Premier Academy of Soccer Skills (PASS). We would like to thank our Parent Society for their generosity in supporting this residency!

In Kindergarten this week, students did lots of work with sorting in mathematics. Using buttons students sorted using various attributes including color, size, how many holes the button has.  They also sorted them by attributes such as being shiny or fancy.  Student continued their journal writing and starting using drawing cards that teach them how to draw various things.

In Grade One, students continued with patterning as well as shape and number patterns in math.  For the first time students had free choice writing and they collaborated with others to come up with ideas and sound out words. In science, students talked about seasonal changes and signs of fall in plants.  Finally we continued learning and scaffolding how to be kind and caring classmates.

In Grade Two, students explored the fall equinox through writing.  In math they continued with patterns including those that increase, decrease and repeat.  In Social Studies students began to learn and think about where they live within the context of our world.  They identified their community, province, country, and continent on the globe.  In Music they have been learning about strong and weak beats in music.

In Grade Three/Four, students were excited to explore the traditions and cultures of Peru, Tunisia, Ukraine and India .  Students also related the traditions of other countries to their own traditions they have with their families.  In Math the focus was on graphing which included line plots, pictographs as well as bar graphs and tallies.  In Language Arts students wrote walking stories.  They started by creating a web plan and following their writing, took part in a mini lesson on adding details.  In Music, students learned about the instrument families including the strings, woodwinds, brass and percussion.  Finally, students continued perfecting their Handwriting with cursive writing lessons!

Outdoor Learning Space

We are absolutely thrilled to announce that our outdoor learning space will break ground on Monday.  This project directly aligns with The Hamptons School's commitment to Truth and Reconciliation.  Through our connection with the land students will continue to build their Indigenous ways of knowing and understanding while being able to learn across all subject areas in and amongst nature.  Stage one of construction will be complete this fall which includes the rock amphitheater.  The final stage will be complete in the spring with naturalization additions.  This project will also include a Time Capsule that will be buried to commemorate the school's 25th year of operation!

Paper Forms

If you received paper forms in your child's backpack these are legal demographic and annual authorization forms that must be completed.  The deadline has already passed. Please fill these out immediately and return them on Monday.  Alternately you can complete these online through your MyCBE account
