Dear Hamptons Families

I am enjoying getting to know your precious children. The Hamptons School is indeed a vibrant and dynamic learning community.

This Week at The Hamptons School

Yesterday, to honour Truth and Reconciliation Week, we spent time gathering as an entire school in our sit spots reflecting on our commitment to truth and reconciliaction. Today, our students participated in an Earth Rangers Assembly where they learned about the importance of conservation. Please take some time to chat with your children about these special event.

We have had a busy and fun-filled week. Teachers love to share what their students have been learning about.  Pour yourselves a cup of tea and enjoy reading about all the great teaching and learning that has been occurring in The Hamptons classrooms.

Kindergarten

In Kindergarten, students continued working on pre-printing skills by completing more pages of their preprinting booklets. They practiced drawing different types of lines and colouring pictures while staying inside the lines. In math, students continued exploring and creating AB patterns (e.g., red, blue, red, blue). Kindergarten was excited to spend more time with their buddy class this week, where students worked together to create talking sticks. On Thursday, Kindergarten participated in the school-wide sit spot and then used their talking sticks during a class discussion where they shared their favorite thing they saw or heard during the sit spot.

This week in grade 4/5 students worked on descriptive writing and used a new journalling technique called 10 by 2 to plan out their writing. They focused on using adjectives and descriptive language to describe an object. In Science, they learned about chemical and physical changes and participated in a science experiment to demonstrate this. They mixed baking soda with various liquids to create physical and chemical changes. In math, they began working on their number strands unit. Grade 4s focused on place value of 6 digit numbers and grade 5s worked with 7 digit numbers.

Family & Caregiver Communication

The Calgary Board of Education invites all parents and guardians to join a live online series on supporting child and youth well-being. The series is hosted by the Recovery Alberta Community Education Service (CES) Program in collaboration with local experts from the Calgary community.

Below is a poster with sessions designed to provide families with knowledge, tools, and strategies to help navigate the challenges and opportunities of raising children and teens today. Along with the poster, additional session details are available on the Child and Youth Family and Caregiver Series page.

Wishing you all a lovely long weekend with your families.  Looking forward to seeing you on Wednesday.
