In Kindergarten, our students had a fun and engaging week filled with learning and creativity!
In Language Arts, we read Bear Snores On and worked on important comprehension skills, including sequencing, retelling, and making predictions about the story. These activities helped students strengthen their understanding of story structure and critical thinking skills.
Music time was full of energy as students enjoyed singing and moving along to Laurie Berkner’s songs, including I Live in a Snow Globe and We Are the Dinosaurs! In Math, students explored the number 10 through a Birds on a Wire activity, creating different groupings to build their number sense. They also practiced positional words by lining up birds in different positions, reinforcing important spatial vocabulary in a hands-on way. A highlight of the week was meeting with their buddies class on Monday to create a St. Patrick’s Day shamrock art project together.
Our Grade 1 students had a fantastic week of learning including in Language Arts, students explored the digraphs "SH" and "TH" during their UFLI lessons. They practiced identifying these sounds in words and applied their learning while reading the UFLI decodable text This and That. In Math, students worked on addition strategies, focusing on rearranging numbers and counting on to develop a strong number sense and mental math skills. Our Health lesson introduced healthy eating, including an introduction to the Canada Food Guide. Students began learning about making balanced food choices to support their well-being.
In Grade 2, our students explored a variety of engaging learning experiences across subjects! In Language Arts, UFLI lessons focused on reading and spelling vowel-consonant-consonant (VCC) words, helping students build their phonics skills. In writing, they reflected on pleasant and unpleasant sounds, using descriptive language to express their thoughts. In Science, students investigated vibrations through hands-on centers and captured their learning with a visual journal page to deepen their understanding. In Math, the focus was on 3D shapes—students practiced describing their attributes and recognizing them in the world around them. A highlight of the week was a Teacher’s Pet session on Nova Scotia, where students learned about the province and painted beautiful lighthouse scenes! In Gym, students worked on ball skills and played cooperative games, developing teamwork and coordination.
This week, our Grade 3 and 4 students have been engaged in exciting learning across all subject areas! In Language Arts, students focused on handwriting, practicing the letter B with careful attention to letter formation and spacing. Additionally, they continued their novel study of Rover’s Story, engaging in discussions and activities to deepen their understanding of the text. In Social Studies, students wrapped up their research projects and took the next big step—beginning their paragraph writing. They are learning how to organize their ideas clearly and express their knowledge effectively. Math lessons have been filled with problem-solving! Grade 3 students practiced division using fact families to strengthen their number sense, while Grade 4 students tackled long division, developing strategies for breaking down larger numbers.
Animal Gate
This spring the Kindergarten class is delighted to be hatching chickens again. We are hoping that a family has a fully enclosed animal gate that we can use to surround the chicken raising area. Please contact Ms. Bradbury if you have something we could borrow for April/May.
