Arriving on Time for School Drop off & Pickup
We have noticed a significant increase in the number of students late for school in the morning. Even missing the first few minutes can have a large impact by missing opening learning tasks, literacy lessons and routines. Please arrive before 8:30 to ensure that students are lined up with their classmates to enter at the bell. Additionally, we have noticed a similar increase in late pickups. Staff members have important meetings and planning following dismissal and it is essential that parents/guardians are on time for pickup.

This Week At the Hamptons School
This week in Kindergarten, students were excited to candle the duck eggs and observe how the ducklings are developing. They also filled out another page in their duckling book and continued learning about the duck life cycle. In science, students explored the ideas of camouflage and predators, learning how animals use these traits to survive in nature. They have also been preparing for their upcoming Earth Day assembly by practicing songs and working together as a class. In literacy, students focused on the letters U and W, practicing their sounds and identifying words that begin with each letter.
In Grade 1, this week in UFLI, students completed their second digraph review and focused on the a_e spelling pattern. They practiced their reading skills with a decodable text called The Ship Dock and Cave in the Maze. Students also continued getting ready for their shared Earth Day Assembly. They worked on colorful posters and practiced songs to share during the event. In their visual journals, they explored plants in the spring and completed their second plant log as part of their ongoing inquiry into nature.
In Grade 2, students focused on the vowel teams oa, ow, and oe during their UFLI Literacy Lessons. In writing, they were introduced to how to write facts. They learned the difference between facts and opinions and practiced identifying facts in a short nonfiction book. Students also learned how to draw four related pictures and write a short phrase for each one. In math, students began learning about addition with regrouping, a key skill for building strong number sense. In science, they continued exploring their energy unit, learning about different types of energy and how they affect the world around us.
In Grade 3/4 students in physical education began their basketball unit. They practiced fundamental skills such as chest and bounce passes, dribbling, and shooting. In art, students completed a spring-themed project using grid paper, applying their understanding of warm and cool colors. In math, students participated in a creative, multidisciplinary project where they used budgeting, purchasing, and shopping skills to design a nature frame. This fun blend of math and art was cleverly named MART by Room 1 (Math + Art). In English Language Arts, students used a Venn Diagram to compare two different stories, focusing on their similarities and differences. As part of their continued learning with the Medicine Wheel, students explored the significance of the West and its teachings.
