This Week At The Hamptons School

In Kindergarten, students proudly performed their Earth Day assembly, sharing meaningful messages about caring for our planet. The performance was the culmination of focused practice—moving up and down from the risers, participating in dress rehearsals, and learning the importance of collaboration. In math, students continued to build their number sense through a fun and interactive subitizing game on the Smart Board. This activity strengthened their ability to recognize number patterns quickly. Their duck observation project continues to spark wonder and scientific thinking. Students performed another candling and recorded their findings in their duck journals, demonstrating growth in both observational skills and scientific vocabulary. Finally in literacy, students explored the letter “Y” in their letter journals, connecting phonics learning to support early reading development.

In Grade One,  students spent time practicing with our Kindergarten students in preparation for the upcoming Earth Day assembly. In math, students reviewed fact families and strengthened their understanding of addition and subtraction through interactive games. These activities not only reinforced important number concepts but also fostered  teamwork and problem-solving. Their visual journal work this week focused on "Plans in the Spring," giving students the opportunity to connect art, writing, and seasonal changes.  In literacy, students explored the "i_e" and "o_e" long vowel patterns through our UFLI lessons. They applied their phonics learning as they read the decodable passages Kites for Sale and The Drive Home, showing great progress in their reading fluency and comprehension.  They ended the week with a beautiful art project inspired by pussy willows, allowing students to express themselves artistically while connecting to signs of spring.

In Grade Two this week, students explored their creativity through an exciting Stain Art activity, learning how colors blend and interact in unique ways. This artistic experience encouraged self-expression while also connecting to their ongoing learning about rainbows and how to describe them vividly in writing. In math, students focused on the important skill of regrouping. Through problem-solving activities they strengthened their understanding of place value and developed greater confidence in their addition and subtraction strategies. Science learning continued to shine—literally—as students dove deeper into their unit on Light. Using mirrors and flashlights, they conducted experiments to explore how light travels and reflects. These hands-on investigations sparked curiosity and supported their understanding of real-world scientific concepts. In physical education, students stayed active with energetic games of Dr. Dodgeball and enjoyed outdoor play! (Shoutout to Zimmal Z. and Leighton H. for their help writing the Grade 2 message this week!)

In Grade Three/Four, students continued their integrated "MART" (Math and Art) project by working on their beautiful Nature Frames.  In Physical Education, students stayed active and engaged through a variety of games including basketball, dodgeball, and kickball. They also took advantage of the spring weather by going on a nature walk, promoting both physical well-being and an appreciation for the outdoors. In Language Arts, students wrapped up their in-depth exploration of Cinderella, engaging in thoughtful analysis and discussion. They then moved on to story mapping with Little Red Riding Hood and The Three Little Pigs, developing a deeper understanding of narrative structure, character, and plot. Math learning took an exciting new turn as students began exploring fractions. This foundational concept was introduced through hands-on activities and real-life examples, helping students build strong conceptual understanding. To round out the week, students began planning a special time capsule for the outdoor classroom.

More Volunteers Needed

We are still short approximately 20 volunteers for our Casino on June 10th and 11th.  We are at risk of losing the privilege of having a Casino fundraiser if we do not have volunteers to cover the shifts.  For reference the last Casino raised over $80,000 for the school.   Please contact Clara by calling 403-777-7300 ext. 0 to sign up or fill out the flyer that was sent home last week

Safety Tip of the Week
